Weekday Favorites – 5 Pieces to Build the Perfect Casual Work Outfit

casual-work-outfits-work-outfit-essentials2

During winter days, layering is essential. Whenever I dress up for work, I always use a couple of base / classic items for building pretty much all my daily outfits. The combinations are endless and the result is always put together and easy to pull of in any type of work environment that’s more or less smart casual.

The 5 pieces I always choose when building the perfect casual work outfit.

Ankle Boots. Go for pointy low heel boots for adding a bit of edge to your outfit. Mix this look with a straight over-sized coat or leather jacket. If your etiquette is more formal, choose a rounder shape with a thinner heel, to make the look more formal. Wear these boots with a pencil skirt or tailored peg trousers.

Skinny Jeans. I am basically in love with skinny grey jeans, hence I have so many pairs already. They go in every combo and are easy to pull off with so many different styling ideas. If you’re not into grey, go for a darker wash jeans, that fit in a more professional environment. They can be matched with a cropped or tailored suit jacket and a light sweater, for a winter smart casual outfit.

A silky cami top or crew-cut tops. These are the pieces you can never have too many of! Invest in a few good solid white, grey, beige and black tank-tops or tops. They will make layering easy and can be stacked with various pieces of jewelry. Striped options are also extremely versatile. As a guide, always choose t-shirts that are exactly your size. From experience, I often chose looser t-shirts for a relaxed fit, but eventually discovered that they were too long/wide to layer and combine into outfits.

Cardigan or coatigan. I am a cardigan addict! Grey, beige, camel or khaki, I am always investing in good cardigans. They instantly dress up any outfit and most of the times can replace your coat completely. I like to play with proportions and wear a longer slimmer cardigan with a shorter or tucked-in top, or a longer top with a cropped bulkier cardigan.

Accessories. Elevate your office looks with  thin fine-jewelry necklaces or larger, statement ones. Thin shorter necklaces are great to be stacked up and are excellent choices to be worn during the day. Larger pieces can add texture or an extra glam to your look. They’re also great for adding a boost to your outfit if you’re planning any after-work drinks.

5 Best Christmas Party Outfits That Always Make The Nice List

One’s on the 18th, another on the 21st, then dinner at your uncle’s, brunch with your girlfriends and your kid’s school Christmas party! Regardless how classy, fun or casual your holiday parties are, your best Christmas party outfits always require some kind of prep work.

We know time will be of essence all around the month of December, so check out these amazing 5 Christmas party outfits, to make sure you’ll stay away from being naughty and you’ll always make the “nice list”!

What to wear to a Christmas party?

Depending on the location and the dress code of the party you are attending, you can choose to go with some of the more classic holiday party looks or to add a statement element to your look.

For cocktail parties, try wearing an elevated little black dress or a jumpsuit paired with statement accessories. Office holiday party outfits can be more playful, so add a red or green piece that will bring a Christmas vibe. If you’re going to a fancier holiday party, add some glitz and glam to your outfits with sequin or embellished pieces.

I always have an element in my look that is minimal and classic and which makes the entire outfit look clean and put together. This can be a soft knit, a scarf, a classic coat, nude pumps or pearl earrings.

Mixing Winter Textures

Dressing for fall/winter gives us the chance to wear amazing textures and fabrics such as wool, cashmere, leather and suede. Don’t get me wrong, summer is still my favorite season, but I can’t help feeling excited to start wearing again some of my favorite knits and scarves that have been sitting in the closet for the past months!

I love these early winter days where the air gets a bit cooler, the leaves in the trees are decorating the city in bright colors and Christmas decorations start popping up to embellish the city. I feel like it’s time to get into the holiday spirit, bundle up layering clothes and get cozy by wearing thicker and warmer pieces, such as my favorites this season: blanket scarves.

Sometimes I get too excited and feel like wearing all those gorgeous fabrics and textures at the same time… How am I supposed to pick only one? Sorry, I can’t! 🙂  Mixing winter textures is fun, but it can also be tricky and create an overloaded outfit. I like to play with proportions such as a skinny bottom and a chunky top or stick with the same color palette to avoid a busy look… Try it out, I think you can never go wrong with these tips!

3 Things To Keep in Mind When Doing a Fall Juice Cleanse

juice-cleanse-tips-1

As seasons change we are faced with the task to adapt our routines for every aspect of our lives: the things we do, places we go to, how we dress and even the way we eat. With the beginning of fall it is time to leave behind the long night barbecues, the popsicles by the beach and Sangrias at the patios. It is also the moment to boost our immune system for the chilly months and invest in a healthier diet to prevent colds and other discomforts that winter might bring. A Juice Cleanse is a great way to jump-start wholesome habits and regain balance of your diet.

After reading about it for quite some time, I decided to take action so I joined some co-workers with similar goals and we’ve started a 5 day juice cleanse on the first week of November. The timing couldn’t be better, as after all those special indulgences on Thanksgiving and Halloween I felt like I needed a break from heavy food and bad eating habits! 😉

This was my second time juicing, last Spring I’ve also completed a 3 day cleanse and since then I became a frequent consumer of cold pressed juices. I love how the combination of fruits and vegetables can be refreshing and satisfying! I have to admit that some juices taste better than others and unfortunately we cannot drink only our favorites during the detox days, but I had mostly a good experience and felt great after my 5 Day Fall Juice Cleanse.

If you’re interested on trying it out, seek more information from the store where you will purchase, they will be able to provide more details of how it works (I got mine from The Juice Truck in Vancouver).

Here are 3 tips that will help you successfully complete a juice cleanse:

1. Baby Steps:

If you are not confident, start with a 3 day juice cleanse to get familiar with the juicing routine. You can also buy juices individually to test the waters.

2. Keep a Healthy Mindset:

Avoid thinking too much about your favourite food during the cleanse and focus on keeping up with healthy habits. This will help you fight cravings!

3. Manage Your Hunger:

If you still feel like biting something after the juices , raw food is totally ok to eat. I like to stick with nuts along the day and a leafy green salad with avocado at night if I feel like having a full meal.

It’s important to say that you shouldn’t expect any expressive weight loss; it is about giving a pause to your digestive system and kick-starting healthier habits, not losing weight!  Also, make sure to ask your doctor that you are suitable for a juice diet.
