How to Always Buy the Best Items on Sale

When it comes to shopping sales, excitement can sometimes play tricks on you and you might get home with more than you planned for! I have to admit, I used to be so tempted to buy things based on the fact that they had a killer price, or that they were the piece of the season. But impulse purchases were the majority of the clothes I ended up returning or giving away, or simply not wearing. In time, I learned to refine the way I shop sales and it’s actually so easy to figure out and apply to your wardrobe too.

Why I Mostly Wear Casual Outfits Now

It’s interesting to discover that most of my outfits have shifted to be relaxed, minimalist and quite casual. When I moved to Vancouver a few years ago, I was surprised of how casual this city was, and I think in time some of this casualness has rubbed onto me as well, and now I mostly wear casual outfits but adapted to my own style.

Although I still dress up most of my looks with various accessories and different trendier pieces, the base of my clothes, about 80%, is made up of classic pieces. It’s not quite a capsule wardrobe, but I have to probably say that I own way less clothes than I used to. I am maybe growing up, or embracing more minimalistic principles, but I am a true believer in the entire “buy less and choose well” revolution, and I still think that denim and a white T-shirt and leather jacket probably make the best outfits in the world.

Some of you have asked me how I let go of so many of my clothes, and I will write a full post explaining how I did it, but I think it all starts with assessing what your lifestyle is, and for what occasions you have to dress up. My work is a casual environment, hence I can wear casual outfits 90% of the time. The rest 10% consists in going out pieces, heels, dresses, or gym clothes.

It’s up to you to identify what this balance looks to you, and then look on making durable, high-quality purchases to fit your own 90%. This makes sense as you will wear them many times, and the cost/wear will be smaller each day. I will dig deeper into this in a future post, but it’s a good reminder to stay true to your style. 😉

Happy Weekend!

Trench Coat – My Favorite Spring Staple

Spring-Statement-Trench-Coat

I actually meant to share these pictures in my latest post ( have you seen it yet?), but I thought my favorite Spring Staple deserved an attention of its own. I love the Trench Coat for some many reasons, for starters whenever I get to wear it in Spring, it is a sign that the flowers are blooming outside, the weather is warmer and I can finally put the heavy coats in the wardrobe. It is also such a classic piece that elevates the outfit and looks geeat with almost everything you wear. For sure the Trench Coat is an  item that will never go out of fashion, so investing in a good one is really worth it.

As the Camel Coat was my Winter uniform for the season, the Trench Coat is definitely my Spring uniform. I’ve had this one from Zara for almost 4 years and as the seasons change I like to update my looks with other current trendy items. I find this to be a great way to maintain a “lean” capsule wardrobe and still be on top of fashion trends.

Lately I’ve been loving to pair my Trench Coat with frayed-hem jeans and mules. Whenever I find an outfit that I like I keep repeating it over and over again, are you also like this? Here is what I’ve been wearing during these lovely Spring days!

How to Achieve Personal Goals – 4 Important Tips

Tips for Achieving Personal Goals

Now that Spring is finally here, the change of season makes me look back at the first months of the year and reassess my resolutions, plans and expectation for the year. So let’s talk about goals. We all have plenty of them in our minds, but quite often we lack time or energy to achieve even one.  Whether your personal goal is to create a side business,  write more blog posts (guilty!) , plan a trip or start a new workout routine, it can be hard to make a commitment and not let it slip up with time. I wish there was a secret formula of how to achieve personal goals, but really there isn’t one! Your desired outcome will result exclusively from how much effort you put into it.

While juggling a 9-5 job, maintaining a home, keeping somewhat of a healthy routine and working on a blog,  I can say that I learned a few things on how to set and achieve personal goals. The main trick is not to get overwhelmed and create goals impossible to achieve, otherwise you will give up before even starting!  Create mini-projects/goals and work on them one by one.

Here are 4 important tips to help you along the way:

Spring Ready

white denim spring outfits

We are officially done with winter and bad weather and Spring ready! At least from our point of view. 🙂 Vancouver keeps being a little moody about letting Spring take over and letting us wear more of our spring capsule wardrobe.

We’ve been having some crazy days in the past week, but Carolina and I have made a promise to be more committed to our blog and post more often now that the days are longer and we have more time to meet up after work! Working on a side-project can prove challenging if you are not organized enough and we realized we need to keep more focused on our content calendar so we can grow our blog and share more of our tips with you.
