WLA – World Luxury Association is the association that nominates yearly the worlds’s most valuable luxury brands. Judging by it’s high-standards, 2011 was a significant year for all the French and Italian luxury brands spread not only in the US an Europe, but also in Asia.

But it’s not just about a name in the fashion or accessories business, because this non-profit organization, rates the strongest brands from various other areas, such as resort destinations, car manufacturers, watch makers, innovative products or cosmetics based on market research and the impact on consumers.

The last report done by WLA was revealed during an event in Beijing this January, which is sort of the equivalent of the Oscar Awards for luxury names. This report also addresses the migration of the spending power of luxury goods to China. This is not at all unexpected, considering the empowerment of the Japanese currency, the Yen, with regards to the EURO but also the big number of the Chinese population who travelled to Europe and the US in 2011. All these things contributed to the WLA report which estimates that in 2012 the total value of luxury goods will reach extremely high peaks ie. 59 billion EUROS.

According to WLA, the strongest fashion brands are the heritage ones, Italian or French brands. Quite a lot of them have already announced the increase of their prices for 2012 because of the rise of the cotton, silk, exotic leather or cashmere prices, so this can only mean even higher prices in the already over-priced luxury area.
